Tanjore Paintings are known for their surface richness vivid colours, compact composition and the 22 carat glittering Gold foils that are used to give the paintings their rich look. Teak wood frame adds on to its beauty! Tanjore Paintings are made on canvas. Emboss effect is created using muck (prepared using arabic gum & chalk powder). Glass beads are embedded on muck that would eventually represent the ornaments adorned by the deity. Gold foil is pasted on the muck and other embossed areas. Relief work is done on the Gold foil giving the painting the 3D effect Embossed Gold foil makes the crown, golden ornaments, arch and the pillars that are typical components of Tanjore Paintings
